• Dive in to PASBO’s professional education programs

PASBO is dedicated to providing exceptional professional education to school business officials in every area of focus and for every level of experience. Through in-person workshops and conferences and online webcasts, series, and caffeinated conversations, PASBO members learn from experts in the field about relevant topics and trends in school business finance and operations.

All of the educational opportunities offered by PASBO will allow our members to keep abreast of trends and best practices in school business management, increase their knowledge and skill level and prepare for the next phase of their career.

PASBO provides the following types of education:

Webcasts – virtual programs on a specific topic within an area of school business ranging from one hour to several hours in length depending on the topic

Workshops – in-person partial or full-day programs on a specific topic(s) within an area of school business

Bootcamps – one or two-day in-person intensive programs that provide an overview of all key concepts and topics in a specific area of school business

Elements Courses – a broad overview of a specific school business area offered at least annually and conducted in a format much like a college course with class time, assignments, quizzes, etc. Elements courses are offered online and in-person.

  • Online Elements courses: four-week asynchronous courses covering one unit per week. Students will complete one quiz and two to three discussion questions per unit. Students will also have the opportunity to join three calls with the instructor, including the initial kick off call.

  • In-person Elements courses: full-day in-person workshop where all concepts are reviewed and the discussions happen in person, with the quizzes being taken online after the in-person portion. All four units of the course are covered in one day.

School Operations Academy – an in-person event held over two days every July, in which sessions are offered in each school business area providing a broad overview of many key concepts and topics in those areas.

Conferences – multi-day in-person opportunities (different months of the year) to attend sessions on a variety of current and/or hot topics in various areas of school business. Conferences include the PASBO Annual Conference annually in March, the Facilities and Transportation Conference held each fall, and the Food Service Conference.

School Business Series – a multi-week virtual learning series offered at least annually that provides an intensive overview of all key concepts or topics in a specific area of school business.

First Things First – an in-person, small-group workshop that includes hands-on work, deep dives, and lively discussions. Designed for newer members or more tenured members moving in to new school business roles. You tell us what issues you’re facing, challenges you’re anticipating, or items you need to learn more about, and we’ll design the program to help you.
